2021년 IAU 31차 총회 개최 2022년 8월 개최 연기 안내

천문학회 회원께, 1. IAU 회장단(회장, 사무총장, 차기회장, 차기사무총장)과 IAUGA2021 조직위원회(이하 조직위)는      COVID-19 팬더믹 상황을 주시하면서 지난 10월 13일 joint meeting에서      31차 총회를 2021년 8월에 하이브리드 형식으로 개최할 것을 결정하였습니다.     조직위는 10월 15일에 개최된 천문학회 총회에서 이에 관하여 보고 드린바 있습니다.  2. IAU 회장단과 조직위는 하이브리드 형식의 내용 (live streaming, pre-recorded talks, I-poster, 등록비 등)에 관한      상세한 계획안을 마련하여,  IAU Executive Committee 및       27개의 미팅(7 symposia, 11 focus meeting, 9 division meetings)의 SOC에게  의견을 요청하였습니다. 3.  대부분 (90% 이상)의 SOC가 하이브리드 형식에 반대하였고, GA의 목적에 맞는 대면회의로 개최하기 위하여         2022년으로 연기해야 한다는 의견을 제출했습니다.  11월에 들어서 전 세계적으로 COVID-19 상황이 악화되어,      초청연사를 in-person 참여로 섭외하기 어렵다는 것이 다수 SOC의 의견이었습니다.      또한 2021년 8월에 개최하는 경우 COVID-19 대응에 뒤쳐진 개발도상국 학자들이 참여하기 어려울 수 있어서      국가간 불평등을 초래한다는 지적이 있었고, 이는 IAU의 기본 정신에 위배되기 때문에 2021년 8월 개최를       반대하는 의견도 있었습니다.      4. IAU 회장단과 조직위는 이런 의견을 반영하여 제31차 총회를 2022년 8월로 연기하기로 결정하여     오늘 2020년 12월  3일 공식적으로 발표하게 되었습니다.    5. 조직위원회는, 공동주관기관인 한국천문학회와 한국천문연구원과 긴밀한 협조아래,     2022년 8월 1-12일(tentative) 개최될 예정인 제31차 총회의 준비에 최선을 다하겠습니다.     이에 천문학회 회원들의 변함없는 지지와 관심을 부탁드립니다. 감사합니다. 강혜성 IAUGA2021 조직위원장 ===================================================== From: IAU General Secretary   Sent: Thursday, December 3, 2020 1:08 AM To: 한국천문학회 Subject: IAU GA 2021 postponed to August 2022 Dear colleague,   I hope this message finds you well.   The uncertainties associated with health safety and travel restrictions around the world seem far from over, although there is very promising news on vaccines in the coming year. However, it is not yet possible to predict the end of this immense global crisis. Thus, the IAU Officers, together with the South Korean LOC, made the decision to postpone the General Assembly to August 2022, specific dates to be determined.    The Business Meetings, including the elections for the next three years provided for in the IAU Bye-Laws, will take place in August 2021, as virtual meetings.   It was a difficult but necessary decision that needed to be made.   The Executive Committee will soon decide on the policy to be adopted for the 2021 GA scientific meetings and the IAU symposia for 2022.  We will keep you informed.   We would like to share with you our great consideration for our colleagues of the LOC who have courageously dealt with all the unexpected difficulties involved in the already heavy task of organizing a General Assembly.
