천문학회 회원 여러분께,

올해 IAU 개인회원 가입(12월 31일 마감)과 IAU PhD Prize 신청(12월 15일 마감)에 대해 안내 드립니다.

1. IAU 개인회원 가입 신청: 마감일 12월 31일

- IAU는 매년 11월~12월 Individual Member(박사학위 취득 후 천문학 관련 전문직에 종사 중인 회원)와 Junior Member(2020~2025년도 사이 박사 학위 취득 회원) 가입 신청서를 받고, 다음 해 개최되는 IAU EC에서 승인을 합니다.

가입 신청은 (Individual Member, Junior Member 모두) 지원자가 직접해야 합니다. 공지문(https://www.iau.org/Iau/News/Ann2025/ann25022.aspx)으로 가서 Application Form 클릭. 새 account 생성 후 가입 신청.

Applications are now open until December 31st 2025 for new Individual and Junior Members of the IAU, using this Application Form. If you are new to IAU, please 'create a new account' to begin the application process. (From: https://www.iau.org/Iau/News/Ann2025/ann25022.aspx).

- Individual Membership 규정: 천문학 관련 박사학위(혹은 동등한 자격)을 소지하고 천문학과 관련된 전문직을 가지고 있어야 함. 2019년에 신청하고 2020년에 Junior Member로 승인받은 회원은 지금 individual Member로 재가입 신청을 해야 함.

“Eligible candidates for IAU Individual Membership are professional scientists conducting research that is directly related to astronomy. Those researchers admitted as IAU Members by the Executive Committee will be affiliated to at least one Division.”

"As a rule, Individual Membership in the IAU is open to scientists with a PhD or equivalent in a branch of astrophysics."

- Junior Membership 규정: 천문학 관련 박사학위 취득 후 연구경력 초기 단계에 있는 회원. Junior Membership을 최장 6년간 유지할 수 있다는 규정에 의하여, 2020년에서 2025년 기간에 학위를 취득하였으나, 아직 정규직이 아닌 경우 Junior Membership을 신청할 수 있음.

“Eligible candidates for IAU Junior Membership are junior scientists in the initial phase of a research career with the prospect of becoming a professional researcher in astronomy. For this round of applications, candidates must have completed their PhD studies in any field of astronomy between 2020 and 2025. Admission by the Executive Committee as a Junior Member will be for a maximum period of six years.”

- 참고 사항

1) 소속 국가는 Korea, Republic of입니다.

2) 신청서는 한국 IAU 운영위원장이 검토 후, IAU 사무총장에게 추천(2026년 2월 15일 마감)

3) IAU EC에서 최종 승인 (2026년 4월~5월)

2. IAU PhD Prize 접수: 마감일 12월 15일

- 공고문: https://www.iau.org/Iau/Science/Grants-and-Prizes/PhD-Prize.aspx

- 대상: 2024년 12월 16일 – 2025년 12월 15일 사이에 PhD defense를 마친 천문학자

- 각 Division 별로 1 명 선정 예정.

- 온라인 접수: 위의 웹에 있는 링크 사용. 필요시 새 account 생성 후 지원.
