2025 SKA-Korea Summer Workshop 

호주와 뉴질랜드, 아프리카 대륙에 건설 중인 SKA(Square Kilometre Array)는 세계에서 가장 크고 민감한 전파망원경을 구축하기 위한 국제 공동 프로젝트입니다. 이 망원경은 별과 은하의 탄생과 진화, 초기 우주의 구조, 우주의 물질과 에너지 구성, 중력파 검출, 외계 생명체 탐색 등 천문학 전 분야에서 혁신적인 연구 성과를 이끌 것으로 기대되고 있습니다. 국내에서도 이와 뜻을 함께하는 연구자들이 지난 2023년부터 매년 정기 워크숍(연 2회)과 다양한 회의를 개최하며, 관련 연구 및 사업에 대한 정보를 공유해오고 있습니다. 오는 2025년 6월 25일부터 26일까지 이틀간 열리는 정기 워크숍은, 특히 국내 천문학계가 오랜 노력 끝에 SKA에 공식 참여를 앞둔 시점에서 개최되는 만큼, 더욱 의미 있는 자리가 될 것입니다. 이번 워크숍에서는 국내 연구자들의 SKA 관련 활동 현황은 물론, SKA를 활용한 다양한 연구 계획을 폭넓게 조망할 수 있는 기회를 마련하였습니다. 이에 여러분의 많은 관심과 적극적인 참여를 부탁드립니다.

The SKA (Square Kilometre Array), currently under construction in Australia, New Zealand, and the African continent, is an international collaborative project aimed at building the world’s largest and most sensitive radio telescope. This telescope is expected to lead groundbreaking research across all areas of astronomy, including the birth and evolution of stars and galaxies, the structure of the early universe, the composition of matter and energy in the Universe, the detection of gravitational waves, and the search for extraterrestrial life. In Korea, researchers who share this vision have been holding regular workshops (twice a year) and various meetings since 2023 to share information on related research and initiatives. The upcoming regular workshop, to be held over two days from June 25 to 26, 2025, is especially significant as it coincides with Korea’s anticipated official participation in the SKA project after years of dedicated effort from Korean astronomical community. This workshop will provide a valuable opportunity to explore the current status of Korean researchers’ involvement with SKA, as well as a wide range of research plans utilizing the SKA. We sincerely invite your keen interest and active participation.
