Dear all,
At the request of the organizers, we announce an international workshop to be held from September 22 to 26, 2025, in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan. (see below for details). All interested researchers are invited to participate.
1. The deadline of the abstract submission is April 30th 2. Website of the workshop.
Best regards Kimitake Hayasaki (CBNU)
Dear colleagues,
On April 1st, we have opened the following website of the abstract submission for ``The 87th Fujiwara seminar: The 50th Anniversary Workshop of the Disk Instability Model in Compact Binary Stars'' in FY2025 at Tomakomai, Japan. The deadline is April 30th. https://web-register.jp/dim50th/en/login/
Please see the following webpage for the detail of this workshop. https://sites.google.com/view/dim-50th-anniversary
The schedule is below. April 1st: Abstract submission opens (Please choose oral or poster presentation), Application for assistance of travel expenses April 30th (JST): Deadline of registration June 1st (JST): Registration and hotel reservation begin June 30th (JST): Deadline of registration and hotel reservation
* As a rule, the accommodation will be Grand Hotel New Oji, the venue of the conference. Hotel reservations can be made at the same time as registration (i.e., June). Participation fee and accommodation fee will be paid at the registration site.
* Due to the limited number of oral presentations, a selection of oral presentations will be made by SOC. For this reason, the registration is in two steps. If you submit an abstract, your participation will be tentatively registered. The program of oral presentations and the website for registration will be available in early June. Those who get travel expenses from us will be contacted. If you wish to participate, please make full registration after this June.
* For those who attend only, please make registration after this June.
We look forward to your participation.
============================================================ Details of this workshop ============================================================ ・Date 2025/9/22 (Mon.) -- 2025/9/26 (Fri.)(on 22nd, welcome reception only)
・Place Grand Hotel New Oji at Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan (in person only) * The workshop is a discussion-oriented meeting, so we assume that all participants will be accommodated in the venue hotel Grand Hotel New Oji.
・Aims of this event In the 50 years since the disk instability model for outbursts in cataclysmic variables was proposed in 1974, this model has been developed into a natural extension of the ``standard disk model'', which is steady and has a simplified vertical disk structure, and has had tremendous success in reproducing the time variability of observations. A unified model explaining outbursts in cataclysmic variables and X-ray binaries has been established, which led to significant progress in understanding accretion disks in other systems, such as active galactic nuclei. However, recent developments in astronomical observations have led to the discovery of a number of phenomena that cannot be explained by the existing models. There is a need to improve the unified model. In this workshop, we will review historical works, share basic physics and the latest research works with participants, identify unsolved problems in this research field and discuss about future works. This workshop will also stimulate communication between researchers in cataclysmic variables and X-ray binaries, with the aim of understanding the accretion physics over the entire disk.
