한국천문연구원 대형망원경사업단은 한국 천문학계의 광학관측연구 활성화 및 후속 세대 양성을 위하여 K-GMT Science Program을 시행하고 있으며, 2017년 제 1회 중대형망원경 사용자 워크숍을 시작으로 올해 제 6회 중대형망원경 사용자 워크숍(K-GMT Science Program Users Meeting 2024, K-GMT SP UM)을 8월 21~23일에 개최하고자 합니다. 이번 워크숍은 COVID-19 팬데믹 이후에 처음으로 2박 3일동안 대면회의로 진행될 예정이며, K-GMT SP의 현황과 향후 계획을 소개하고 사용자들과 소통할 수 있는 뜻깊은 자리가 될 것으로 기대합니다. 

이번 워크숍에서는 Gemini 망원경을 비롯한 중대형 광학망원경을 활용한 최신 연구결과와 Gemini 천문대 운영 상황과 계획, 새로운 관측 시설 및 기기와의 시너지에 대한 소개 등이 있을 예정입니다. K-GMT SP의 기존 사용자들을 비롯해, 중대형 광학망원경과 미래의 초거대광학망원경을 활용한 연구에 관심있는 모든 연구자분들의 적극적인 참여 부탁드립니다.

The Center for Large Telescopes (CfLAT) in the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) is conducting the K-GMT Science Program to enhance optical observation research and cultivate the next generation in the Korean astronomy community. On behalf of all members of CfLAT and the Organizing Committee, we cordially invite you all to the “K-GMT Science Program Users Meeting 2024 (K-GMT SP UM)”, scheduled for August 21-23 this year. This is the 6th K-GMT SP UM, which is the first full-scale in-person workshop since the COVID-19 pandemic. We anticipate it will be a meaningful occasion to introduce the current status and future plans of the K-GMT SP and engage in discussions with users.

The workshop will feature presentations on the latest research outcomes utilizing large optical/IR telescopes including Gemini, updates on Gemini's operational status and plans, as well as introductions to synergies with new facilities and instruments. We anticipate the participation of current users of the K-GMT SP as well as all researchers interested in utilizing large optical/IR telescopes for their research.
