천문학회 회원 여러분께,

올해 IAU 개인회원 가입과 IAU PhD Prize 신청에 대해 안내 드립니다. 둘 다 12월 15일이 마감입니다.

1. IAU 개인회원 가입 신청: 마감일 12월 15일

- IAU는 매년 10월 1일 이후 12월 15일까지 individual member(박사학위 취득 후 천문학 관련 전문직에 종사 중인 회원), junior member(2018~2023년도 사이 박사학위 취득 회원), 명예회원 가입 신청서를 접수하여 다음 해 개최되는 IAU EC에서 승인받게 됩니다.

- Individual Membership 규정: 천문학 관련 박사학위(혹은 동등한 자격)을 소지하고 천문학과 관련된 전문직을 가지고 있어야 함.

“Eligible candidates for IAU Individual Membership are professional scientists conducting research that is directly related to astronomy. Those researchers admitted as IAU Members by the Executive Committee will be affiliated to at least one Division.”

"As a rule, Individual Membership in the IAU is open to scientists with a PhD or equivalent in a branch of astrophysics."

- Junior Membership 규정: 천문학 관련 박사학위 취득 후 연구경력 초기 단계에 있는 회원. IAU 회원 2명 이상으로부터 추천서를 받아서 제출. Junior membership을 최장 6년간 유지할 수 있다는 규정에 의하여, 2018년에서 2023년 기간에 학위를 취득하였으나, 아직 정규직이 아닌 경우 Junior Membership을 신청할 수 있음.

“Eligible candidates for IAU Junior Membership are junior scientists in the initial phase of a research career with the prospect of becoming a professional researcher in astronomy. For this round of applications, candidates must have completed their PhD studies in any field of astronomy between 2018 and 2023. Admission by the Executive Committee as a Junior Member will be for a maximum period of six years.”

- 지원 및 승인 절차

(1) 한국 IAU 운영위원장에게 이메일로 신청(jcho@cnu.ac.kr) : 신청하려는 회원 종류(individual, junior 등) 명기

(2) 온라인 신청 URL 수령 후 본인이 직접 지원서 작성 (2023년 12월 15일 마감) : division 1-3개 선택, 연구업적 입력 필수, 주니어 멤버의 경우 추천서 2장과 CV 첨부

(3) 한국 IAU운영위원장이 지원서 검토 후, IAU 사무총장에게 추천 (2024년 2월 15일 마감)

(4) IAU EC에서 최종 승인 (2024년 4월~5월)

2. IAU PhD Prize 접수: 마감일 12월 15일

- 공고문: 올해는 개별 공고가 뜨지 않았지만, 다음 웹으로 가면 신청 가능합니다:

- 대상: 2022년 12월 16일 – 2023년 12월 15일 사이에 PhD defense를 마친 천문학자

- 각 Division 별로 1 명 선정 예정.
