Statistical Challenges in Modern Astronomy VIII June 12-16, 2023 hosted
by Penn State’s Center for Astrostatistics Statistical Challenges in Modern Astronomy (SCMA)
VIII will be held in person at Penn State University, June 12 to 16, 2023. The
SCMA conference series has been the premier forum for astronomers and
statisticians since 1991 to discuss advanced methodology and further our
understanding of the Universe. The SOC is working to construct a program with a
strong mix of expertise from all relevant challenges facing modern astronomical
data analysis, and hence is inviting researchers from both astronomy and data
science to join the program, by contributing talks and/or posters. Contributions are welcome on important,
data-related problems in astronomy, on advances in methods for analyzing data
that may be relevant to astronomy, and on recent results achieved with
sophisticated data analysis methods. In the tradition of prior SCMA conferences, the
program is designed to be broad and contributions from all areas are welcome.
We have a specific goal to broaden participation in the conference, with
individuals from all career stages and from institutions traditionally less
well-represented at such conferences. Please visit the SCMA VIII website for abstract

2023. Decisions on the final program will be announced by Mar 1, 2023. Registration and
