Postdoctoral position in infrared astrophysics at UGent Applications are invited for a two-years postdoctoral position in infrared astrophysics at the astronomy group of Ghent University (UGent), Belgium. The UGent astronomy group is an expanding research group in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, with a focus on extragalactic astronomy. The group is leading two Herschel projects, the Herschel Exploitation of Local Galaxy Andromeda (HELGA) and Herschel Observations of Edge-on Spirals (HEROES), and is involved in several other Guaranteed Time and Open Time Herschel projects, including the Herschel Reference Survey (HRS), Herschel Virgo Cluster Survey (HeViCS), the Herschel-ATLAS and the Very Nearby Galaxies survey (VNG). The successful applicant will be involved in several of these projects; the duties will include data reduction, analysis and interpretation, and publication of scientific results. Ample research and travel funds are available. Candidates should have obtained, by the starting date, a PhD in astronomy, physics or equivalent, in an area relevant to the project. Experience in infrared, submm and radio astronomy is considered as an added value. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a description of research interests, a list of publications, and should arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Maarten Baes (maarten.baes@ugent.be). Young postdocs are encouraged to apply. Applications received prior to 31st January 2011 will receive first consideration. Starting date is expected as soon as the selection is made.
