=========================================== ***** GMT2010: Opening New Frontiers with the Giant Magellan Telescope ***** *********** (Oct. 4-6, 2010, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea) *********** ************************ FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT ****************************** August 8, 2010 Dear colleagues, We will be hosting an international workshop, "GMT2010: Opening New Frontiers with the Giant Magellan Telescope" at Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea during October 4-6, 2010. In recent years, the Giant Magllen Telescope (GMT) project has been making strides toward its successful construction. Several new partners joined the project including Korea, where the involvement to the GMT project is anticipated to bring a quantum jump in the development of Korean astronomy. Another recent important milestone is the selection of six first-generation instrument concepts. It is about time to prepare strong science cases for these instruments. The goal of this workshop is to review the current status of the GMT project and to discuss sciences, instruments, and some of the technical challenges for the GMT. The program will be made of invited talks, contributed talks, and posters. The registration will be open until August 31, 2010. The registration form and the details of the meeting can be found at http://astro.snu.ac.kr/gmt2010 . The attendance will be limited to 150, but the workshop will be open to astronomers in both the GMT partner institutions and the non-GMT partner institutions.
