Kim, Department Chair -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Department of Astronomy and Space Science at Kyung Hee University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in astronomy and/or space sciences beginning March 1, 2008. Candidates must be a non-Korean national and have a PhD in astronomy, space sciences or related fields, and minimum two years of postdoctoral research experience. Preference will be given to applicants with an ability of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in fluent English. Duties include teaching two to four courses per semester depending on the candidate’s research performance (most professors in the department teach two courses per semester), and conducting research on his/her own and in collaboration with the Department faculty. Founded in 1949, Kyung Hee University is a well-established, but vibrantly growing educational and research institution ranked among the top ten universities of Korea. The Department of Astronomy and Space Science, inaugurated in 1985, is located in the Suwon Campus (now renamed as Global Campus) approximately 30 km south of Seoul, and currently has 8 professors (4 in astronomy and 4 in solar and space physics; see space.khu.ac.kr/faculty_en.html for the faculty list), 4 postdoctoral researchers, and about 25 graduate students. An application consisting of a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, names and e-mail addresses of three references, and a future research plan should be sent to Dr. Sungsoo S. Salary will be determined by the University, commensurate with qualifications and experience per KHU pay scale, which starts at around $55,000 per year (12 months) for the required minimum experience. Please note that if the research experience of the selected candidate does not meet the tenure-track standard of the University, a non-tenure-track position could be offered instead.
