Job Announcement The Center for the Gravitational-Wave Universe (GWUniverse), which
was launched recently by the support of the Ministry of Science, and ICT
through National Research Foundation (NRF), at Seoul National University with
participation of Korea Astronomy and Space-science Institute (KASI), Ewha
Womans University, and Pohang Institute of Technology (POSECH) invites
applications for multiple positions on the areas specified below. The GWUniverse aims to promote
gravitational-wave science and multi-messenger astronomy with a new facility
called 7DT (Seven-dimensional telescope) which is composed of a large number
(~20) of small telescope (~50 cm in diameter) equipped with imaging cameras and
large number of narrow-band filters in order to obtain low resolution spectra
for all objects in the field with good sensitivity. Successful candidates are expected to work
on gravitational wave data analysis, cosmology, modeling of gamma-ray bursts,
detection of transient objects, and application of artificial intelligence to
the analysis of time domain data for rapid classification. The location of the
works could depends on the collaborating senior members: Seoul National
University (Hyung Mok Lee [hmlee@snu.ac.kr],
Myungshin Im [myungshin.im@gmail.com]),
KASI in Daejeon (Lucas Uhm [uhm@kasi.re.kr],
Arman Shafieloo [shafieloo@kasi.re.kr]),
Ewha Womans University in Seoul (Chunglee Kim [chunglee.kim@ewha.ac.kr] ), or
POSTECH in Pohang (Jae-Hun Jung [jung153@postech.ac.kr]).
The preferred areas of research of the
candidates include (Senior members in parentheses) •
Gravitational wave physics and data analyses
(Hyung Mok Lee, Chunglee Kim) •
Testing of cosmological models (Arman Shafieloo) •
Modeling of gamma-ray bursts and kilonovae
(Lucas Uhm) •
Construction of the 7DT, data acquisition and
analysis (Myungshin Im) •
Application of artificial intelligence for
massive time-domain data (Jae-Hun Jung) The positions will be for 2 years,
renewable upon mutual agreement and availability of funds. Candidates must have
a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a related field by the date of the
appointment. The position will remain available
until filled. Applications received by October 31, 2021, will receive full
consideration. Candidates should provide a cover letter, Curriculum Vita
including publications list, statements of technical and research interests,
and contact information for three references to: |
