5TH WORKSHOP ON COMPACT STEEP SPECTRUM AND GHZ-PEAKED SPECTRUM RADIO SOURCES
---------------------- FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT --------------------------
The Fifth workshop on Compact Steep Spectrum and GHz-Peaked Spectrum
Radio Sources will take place in Rimini (Italy) on May 27-29, 2015.
The organization is provided by the Institute of Radio Astronomy of
the National Institute of Astrophysics (IRA-INAF) and by the
Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Bologna (DIFA-
UniBO), and generously sponsored by RadioNet.
Registration will close on April 15th.
The number of participants is limited to about 50-60(max) persons,
thus we encourage you to register as soon as possible by filling the
form on the Workshop website.
For those already registered and willing to submit an abstract for their
contribution, please follow the link on our web page, and refer to the
same e-mail address used for the registration.
RATIONALE
The main topic of the workshop is the physics of intrinsically small
radio sources, where the relativistic plasma is expanding through the
interstellar medium of the host galaxy. In fact, young radio sources
provide unique laboratories to study the evolution of the radio emission
and its role in the AGN feedback.
Such interplay between the magnetized relativistic plasma and its
environment generates a variety of phenomena possibly visible
throughout the electromagnetic spectrum as shown by recent Gamma and
X-ray, UV/optical, millimeter and radio observations.
Despite decades of efforts many aspects of the physics of such
jet-environment interaction, the radio source lifetime, and the radio
emission lifetime and its duty-cycle are still far from being fully
understood. In particular the discovery of young but fading objects
questions whether all radio sources will evolve into the classical
large radio galaxies. Going to lower flux densities, new morphologies
more reminiscent of low power radio galaxies become more and more
frequent.
These days of transformational science in light of the brand-new and
forthcoming large facilities (ALMA, LOFAR, SKA and its
precursors/pathfinders), lend fresh perspectives to the subject. The
improvement in the observational capabilities will push the frontier
even further, giving the chance to find an answer for some of the
still open questions.
This workshop is intended to bring together observers with various
expertise spanning the whole electromagnetic spectrum with theorists
for an informal and stimulating exchange of ideas and results.
To set up the scene the following invited talks are being scheduled:
-> Radio properties (M. Orienti)
-> IR properties (TBA)
-> X-ray & gamma-ray properties (G. Migliori)
-> Relation to other AGN types (E. Sadler)
-> AGN accretion & disk-jet conntection (B. Czerny)
-> Outflows & feedback: observations & theory (C. Thadhunter)
-> Radio source evolution (M. Perucho)
