********************************
Call for Proposals of KaVA ( KVN and VERA Array )
Deadline; November 6, 2014, 08:00 UT.
*********************************
Dear Colleagues.
We invite proposals for the open use observations of the KaVA, a joint array
of the KVN (Korean VLBI Network) and the VERA (VLBI exploration of Radio
Astrometry). The joint array consists of three 21-m KVN telescopes and
four 20-m VERA telescopes, with baseline lengths ranging from 300 km to 2300 km.

Same as the last semester, this open-use call will be based on risk-share, and
provide VLBI observations at 22GHz and 43GHz for astronomers who are affiliated
to universities or institutes in Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan.
We can support astronomers who are not familiar with VLBI technique
in the preparation of proposals, scheduling, and data analysis. Proposers from
China and/or Taiwan are requested to include at least one collaborator from
VERA or KVN. If it is difficult to find the collaborator from VERA or KVN, we can
support to find them.
The contact address for the support is kavaprop (at-mark) kasi.re.kr.

Observations will be conducted with single polarization (LCP) and 1-Gbps data rate.
The total available observation time is up to 250 hours and the observations will be
scheduled between January 15, 2015 and June 15, 2015.
The maximum observing time per proposal is 48 hours during the observing period.
The deadline of submission is November 6, 2014. More detailed
information of the KaVA call-for-proposal can be found from

http://kava.kasi.re.kr/contents/proposal_info.php?mid=020101

If you have any questions, please send an email to kavaprop (at-mark) kasi.re.kr

Sincerely,

Jongsoo Kim
Director of Radio Astronomy Division, KASI
and
Hideyuki Kobayashi
The acting Director of Mizusawa VLBI Observatory, NAOJ

Call for Proposals 2015A (VLBI)

The Korean VLBI Network (KVN, http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/) invites scientific proposals for VLBI observations during the 2015A season from the East Asian astronomical community (China, Japan, Taiwan and Korea). Observations of successful proposals will be scheduled between 15th January 2015 and 15th June 2015. Proposals should be emailed to kvnprop@kasi.re.kr before the deadline of UT 08:00 (KST17:00) on 6th November 2014.

Korean VLBI Network (KVN)

The Korean VLBI Network (KVN) is a dedicated mm-VLBI network, operated by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI, http://www.kasi.re.kr). Its three 21m radio telescopes are located in Seoul, Ulsan and Jeju Island around South Korea. The baseline lengths ranges from 305km to 476 km. Its 4-channel receiving system allows simultaneous observation at 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz. For 2015A season, 22, 43, and 86 GHz are available. A risk shared observation with 129 GHz would be possible. Total machine time of 300 hours are planned for this call.

Details of the information and current status of the KVN can be found in the KVN VLBI Status Report (http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/status_report_2014/).

Proposer should fill the KVN VLBI proposal form (tex file can be found at http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/index.html/obs_proposal.php). Please carefully follow the instruction of the proposal form. A separate scientific and technical justification is mandatory. This Justification should be submitted together with the proposal form and not exceed 3 pages.

KVN Key Science Program Call for Proposals

The KVN now enters into the full fledged stage for its scientific use as a millimeter-wave VLBI array. The KVN Key Science Program (KSP) has been designed to look for unique science demonstrating the characteristics and advantages of the KVN system (http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/status_report_2014/).

The KVN KSP proposals can be submitted through the same procedure as other normal proposals, but will be selected in the special selection committee based on the following criteria:

- The KSP should aim at a clear scientific goal, which may manifest the strength and power of KVN.

The KSP is recommended to request less than 300 hours of observing time a year (for up to about 3 years), and it should not be a combination of small programs. The proposers of the KSP may be requested to present the proposal in the committee. The evaluation results will be announced at the end of February 2015.

Observations of successful KSP proposals can begin in April 2015. The KSP is open to all researchers working in Korea, and the KVN team will assist fully for the success of the accepted KSP proposals.

Proposals should be emailed to kvnprop@kasi.re.kr before the deadline of UT 08:00 (KST17:00) on 1st December 2014.

Proposer should fill the KVN VLBI proposal form (tex file can be found at http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/index.html/obs_proposal.php). Please carefully follow the instruction of the proposal form. A separate scientific and technical justification is mandatory. This Justification should be submitted together with the proposal form and not exceed 6 pages.

Call for Proposals 2015A (Single Dish)

The Korean VLBI Network (KVN, http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/) invites scientific proposals for single dish observations for the 2015A season from Korean astronomical community. Observations of successful proposals will be scheduled between 15th January 2015 and 15th June 2015. Proposals should be emailed to kvnprop@kasi.re.kr before the deadline of UT 08:00 (KST17:00) on 6th November 2014.

The Korean VLBI Network (KVN) is operated by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI, http://www.kasi.re.kr). Its three 21m radio telescopes are located in Seoul, Ulsan and Jeju Island. Both spectral and continuum observation modes are supported. Available frequency bands are 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz and simultaneous observation of four frequency bands is also possible. For each KVN telescope, 300 hours of single dish observation time are planned for this call. Therefore, total available time is 900 hours.

Details of the information and current status of the KVN can be found in the KVN VLBI Status Report (http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/status_report_2014/).

Proposer should fill the KVN VLBI proposal form (text file can be found at http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/index.html/obs_proposal.php). Please carefully follow the instruction of the proposal form. A separate scientific and technical justification is mandatory. This Justification should be submitted together with the proposal form and not exceed 3 pages.
