The Center aims to determine the particle nature of dark matter by combining astronomical observations and particle physics experiments within a unified Simulation-Based Inference (SBI) framework. - Director: M. Please indicate your preferred rank in your application; if you wish to be considered for both, please state so. ■ Research Areas [1] Astrophysical data analysis and SBI applications - Gravitational lensing mass reconstruction; dark matter distributions in galaxy clusters and dwarf galaxies - Constraints on dark matter self-interaction cross-sections using simulation-based inference - Joint inference across multiple observational channels and control of systematic uncertainties - Qualification: PhD (or expected PhD) in astronomy or astrophysics [2] Machine learning methodology and foundation model development - Design of multi-modality encoders and a shared embedding model - Development of Neural Posterior/Ratio Estimation and methods robust to model misspecification - Construction of large-scale simulation-based training pipelines - Qualification: PhD (or expected PhD) in astronomy, physics, computer science, statistics, or a related field ■ Preferred Qualifications - Experience with large-scale data processing in Python and GPU-accelerated deep learning - Model development experience with PyTorch or JAX - Research experience in Bayesian inference, normalizing flows, or equivariant neural networks - Participation in international collaborations - Willingness to learn beyond one's primary domain Candidates whose background does not map exactly onto the categories above are welcome to inquire.
