천문학회원분들께,

한국천문연구원이 미국, 캐나다, 브라질, 칠레, 아르헨티나와 함께
국제공동운영하고 있는 제미니 천문대(International Gemini Observatory)에서
차세대 발전계획(Strategic Plan)을 수립하기 위해 준비하고 있습니다.

그 시작으로 Gemini 천문대를 활용하는 커뮤니티 멤버들을 대상으로 한
설문조사를 실시 되었습니다. 설문조사 결과와 함께 향후 Strategic Plan을
어떻게 수립하려는지에 관한 계획을 지난 5월24일에 온라인 타운홀 미팅에서

이제 본격적으로 Gemini 사용자들의 계획을 Community Brief를 통해 받고
있습니다 (기한: 9월 13일). 이 보고서는 Gemini의 향후 발전 방향에 대한
여러분의 의견을 전달할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것입니다. 이 보고서는 아래
내용을 담고 있으면서 분량은 2쪽을 넘기지 않으면 됩니다.

1. Over the next 10–15 years, should Gemini develop new workhorse
instruments for its two sites, or maintain a broad range of specialized
instruments? What are the critical capabilities that the next generation
of Gemini instruments should have?
2. What synergies with other space- and ground-based missions should
Gemini prioritize? What technical capabilities should be optimized to
guarantee the success of these initiatives?
3. What data and/or archive improvements would increase Gemini’s
scientific return in the 2030s?
4. How can Gemini pave the way for the US-ELTP (GMT and TMT) and the
Habitable Worlds Observatory?
5. Gemini North will upgrade the MAOA/GLAO system in preparation for
GIRMOS. What other instrument could Gemini develop to take advantage of
the new AO capabilities?
