We look forward to your participation.

Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the EA ALMA Science/Data Analysis Workshop 2024

Important Dates:

  • April 17 (Wednesday): Registration opens
  • May 20 (Monday): Deadline for workshop applications
  • May 31 (Friday): Deadline for science workshop talk abstract submissions
  • June 30 (Sunday): Deadline for science workshop poster abstract submissions and registration closure

Topics for the East Asian Data Analysis Workshop 2024:

Participants will work in groups to analyze ALMA archival data on specific topics, guided by experienced supervisors. Through group work, we aim to promote closer interaction among the EA ALMA members and propel us to the forefront of astronomical research. In essence, the East Asian ALMA Data Analysis Workshop drives scientific advancement and fosters regional cooperation, empowering the next generation of astronomers.

The DA workshop will be conducted in a hands-on session with a limited number of participants. We will inform the selected participants on May 27.

  • Multi-bands: This topic aims to derive physical quantities such as temperature and column density from continuum and/or line data across multiple ALMA bands after beam matching.
  • Polarisation: This topic focuses on determining spatial distributions of polarisation intensity, fraction, and angle from observed Stokes I, Q, U, and possibly V images, and visualizing these quantities.
  • Self-calibration: Participants will apply phase-only and phase plus amplitude self-calibration, and explore the effects of various parameters such as solution time interval and clean threshold.
  • Total power and mosaic: This session will teach methods for combining interferometric data with total power (single-dish) data, and techniques for creating images from mosaic ALMA observations.
  • Basics: Geared towards beginners, this topic will cover fundamental concepts of the imaging and calibration processes used by ALMA, with hands-on practice in creating continuum and/or line images.
