************************************************************ 2017 KaVA/EAVN Joint Science Working Group Meeting November 21 - 23, 2017 Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, Daejeon, Korea (Workshop website will be available shortly.) ************************************************************ [First Announcement: August 3, 2017] -------------------- Scientific Rationale -------------------- The KVN and VERA Array (KaVA) started its regular operation from 2013 and is conducting more than 1000-hour observations per year. KaVA consists of 7 radio telescopes with the baseline lengths of 300 - 2,300 km, enabling us to obtain very high-quality images at both 22 and 43 GHz. KaVA Science Working Group (SWG) is organized in four astronomy areas (AGN, Evolved Stars, Galactic Astrometry, and Star-Forming Regions) including members from not only Korea and Japan but also many other countries. In 2016, KaVA SWG's activities were expanded to cover further science topics to be obtained with the East-Asian VLBI Network (EAVN). The workshop entitled "KaVA/EAVN Joint Science Working Group Meeting" aims at conducting face-to-face discussion in each SWG, exchanging information between SWGs, and introducing the latest results obtained with KaVA and other VLBI arrays. How to promote scientific research with EAVN will also be discussed. On the other hand, KaVA has also started the Large Programs (LPs) for three science topics from 2015 in order to fully utilize KaVA's array capabilities and to maximize scientific output. The first-term observations have been completed and preliminary results are already obtained.
