The Department of Physics and Astronomy (DIFA) of the University of Bologna and the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) invite applications for 9 positions to their joint PhD Course in Astrophysics. Four positions are funded by the University of Bologna. The subjects of the PhD theses can be in the various research areas of the Astrophysics section of DIFA. These include: Stars; Stellar evolution; Stellar populations; Chemistry and Dynamics of stellar systems; Galaxy evolution and dynamics; Chemistry of Galaxies and Interstellar Medium; Large-Scale Structure and Cosmology; Radio-astronomy; High-Energy Astrophysics; Astronomical Technology (http://www.physics-astronomy.unibo.it/en/research/areas/astrophysics). Three positions are funded by INAF and are devoted to specific projects proposed by the three main INAF institutes in Bologna: The Bologna Observatory (OABo – see http://www.bo.astro.it/ ) The Institute of Radio-Astronomy (IRA - https://www.ira.inaf.it/Home.html) The Institute of Space Astrophysics and Cosmic Physics (IASF, see http://www.iasfbo.inaf.it/en/ ) Two positions are funded by ERC grant and devoted to specific projects: Magnetic field amplification by shocks in galaxy clusters -Supervisor: Dr. Annalisa Bonafede (INAF- IRA Bologna) PI of the project DRANOEL (Deciphering RAdio NOn-Thermal Emission on the Largestscale) DETECTING THE RADIO SIGNAL FROM COSMIC FILAMENTS- Supervisor: Dr. Franco Vazza – (DIFA-UNIBO), PI of the project MAGCOW-The Magnetised Cosmic Web (see http://cosmosimfrazza.myfreesites.net/magcow ) Complete application must be received by May 29, 2017. The student selection will be performed in June-July 2017. The selected students will start their activity on November 1st, 2017.
