Solar Physics Postdoc Positions at Peking University Hui Tian Nov 2016 The research group of solar spectroscopy at Peking University cordially invites applications for one to two postdoctoral positions in solar physics. Peking University is one of the top universities in China. About 6000 foreign students and researchers, with ~30% from Korea, are studying and working on the campus. The solar spectroscopy group at Peking University has recently been selected as a Partner Group of the Max Planck Society of Germany. The ongoing research of this newly established group concentrates on imaging and spectroscopic observations of solar flares and small-scale activities. Currently the group consists of a faculty member, a postdoc and three students including one from Korea. Research topics of the group members include reconnection and heating in solar flares, jets in coronal holes and active regions, sunspot oscillations, and Ellerman bombs. The group is deeply involved in the operation and data analyses of several major space and ground-based solar telescopes in the world. The successful candidates will work in close collaboration with the head of the Partner Group, Dr. Hui Tian. They will primarily work on the analysis of the data acquired by major US, Chinese and Korean observing facilities such as the IRIS, SDO, NST, NVST, ONSET and MUSER telescopes. Operation opportunities of some telescopes can also be expected. The positions are available immediately and are for a fixed term of 2 years with a possible extension of 1-3 years depending on funding availability and performance. Postdocs of this Max Planck Partner Group are also expected to spend a few months working with our close collaborators at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Göttingen, Germany. The selected candidates will be appointed with a full time temporary contract. The salary will be about 12000 Chinese Yuan (~1600 Euro) per month. Based on availability, Peking university can provide fully-furnished studio which is just a few minutes walk to the campus. The cost of this accommodation is only ~1000 Yuan per month. The university has about ten dinning centers which provide food with a variety of flavors, and the average cost of food is only 20 Yuan per day (three meals). Applicants must hold or expected in the near future to obtain a Ph.D. in solar physics or a closely related field. Experience in spectroscopy and/or ground-based observations is of particular advantage. The position is open to people from all countries. There is no language requirement for the applicants, but the applicants should be able to communicate in English. Candidates should submit the following documents electronically before November 30, 2016, to huitian@pku.edu.cn: a CV, a cover letter describing research experiences and plans, and two letters of references (sent directly by the persons recommending the candidates). -------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Hui Tian (田晖) School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University Office: North 427, Physics Building Phone: +86 010 62766325 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
