Second Announcement

Chile has unique advantages in today’s astronomical research for providing the best observational
sites and hosting most of the modern ground-based observatories. In addition, the Chilean
Astronomy community is vibrant and rapidly growing. Korea is participating in constructing
the next generation of astronomical telescopes and instrumentation, and promoting international
cooperation in observational and theoretical research. The collaboration between Korean and Chilean
astronomers, in the framework of the recent agreement signed between the Comisión Nacional de
Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (CONICYT) and Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute
(KASI), will benefit both communities.  A joint workshop will be held on December 2-3, 2015 at
the “Centro de Innovacion Anacleto Angelini” (http://centrodeinnovacion.uc.cl/en/) in San
Joaquin Campus of the Universidad Católica de Chile, in Santiago. This will provide an excellent
opportunity for exchanging ideas and fostering future scientific collaborations. Registration
and more specific information for the workshop will be available at the SOCHIAS web page
astronomers affiliated with Chilean or Korean institutes are welcome to participate in the workshop
by presenting their current lines of research. Deadline for Korean participants is on October 23rd
and for Chilean participants on November 5th.
